EXPLORE & ENJOY

The Heart of Appalachia region offers travelers countless ways to explore and enjoy the majestic surroundings.  These mountains have something FUN for everyone. How about the heart-pumping thrills of hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, ATV riding, whitewater rafting, and rock climbing? We've got it!  If relaxing by a campfire, sipping local wines, and tapping your toes to the music of the Crooked Road are more your style, we’ve got you covered there too.

Visitors will also enjoy amazing natural wonders, ample bird and wildlife watching, world-class fishing, tubing, overlooks, and waterfalls.  Shopping, handmade crafts, museums, historical sites, traditional Southern food, and lots of family-friendly activities will round out your visit to this exciting, yet affordable area.

All this is here…in the Heart of Appalachia, connected by these Appalachian Backroads.  Experience the thrills for yourself.  There's over 30 points of interest, nearly 90 restaurants, and over 50 lodging choices identified on the 2017 version of our back roads  map... and there's a lot more to do when you're not riding the roads.  Explore and enjoy!
